Hey guys,

It's been a while since I have shared the story elements of the Behemoth Chronicles in a journal, and since I am at bit of a cross-roads with the overall story itself, I figured I would share some of the concepts I have for right now, and bounce off you guys. I'm putting the ideas in bold, so you can read them a bit better.

1) Monsturradon Rex & Monsturra (princeps) are now related, and not in the terms they are simply the same species. They are indeed father and son now, as I felt it would give a more dynamic for the characters, with their differences between them is Monsturra Rex is ten meters taller than Monsturra (he's about 70 meters, while his son is 60 meters in height), and M-Rex has a more spiked/aggressive appearance than his son. I'm still debating if the difference of appearance is because Monsturra Rex being older, from a possible mutation, or a combination of both.

2) As for right now, Monsturra is a natural creature, and no longer a clone. I'm sure I have mentioned this before, but I wanted to reiterate it. I'm trying to debate a bit of his backstory, as I want some human group, maybe my anti-kaiju military group or some science thing, to raise him and maybe even train him. While I could see Monsturra being trained to use martial arts and wrestling style moves would be cool, I can see that being a bit far-fetched to some. However, I will point out that I always wanted to have a Showa feel with my series, while keeping it a bit dark, so having my kaiju learn to fight via a human trainer would be cool, and later on, have him trained with Leonydas.

3) I have debated on the size for the young Monsturra. I am leaning towards him being about 10 to 20 feet tall and with a 20-40 foot length or so. I think that would still make him taller than humans, but smaller than his behemoth brethren. Also, I have decided that Monsturradons are similar to crocodilians, as the children can still hunt on their own, but need their parent's guidance/protection. Monsturra is different in that his mother is dead, and his father is presumed dead (at this point), so the humans take pity in the young behemoth, and decide to raise him as mankind's protector.

4) Leonydas is now taking on a Mothra style of role. He appears in England during a behemoth attack, and seems to trounce a enemy behemoth (not Monsturra Rex, it might be either Wyrmogan or Carabix). While he is a behemoth, he seems to have a sense of nobility, and chooses not to attack mankind, though he isn't as protective as Monsturra is. He does play a part in fighting Monsturra Rex in a battle that appears to kill him, which actually cause Leonydas to go into a depression, since he has to have help to defeat a enemy from the humans. I do have a idea that Monsturra's human trainers have Leonydas train Monsturra once he grows too big for them to handle, as Leonydas does have a human-style fighting style, and can also teach Monsturra to focus his attacks a bit more. However, this does lead some issues I have with the story, which I will discuss below.

5) I have decided to keep Brontosuchus as the scientific name for what is now called Brasher, who will have crocodilian-like features, but isn't simply a oversized crocodile.

NOW, THE ISSUES I'M HAVING, and I love to get a opinion about these

A) I am debating if I want to keep Monsturra a secret to the world in the first part of the story, or have him be well known, and having the drama build around that. I'm kind of leaning towards the latter, as people will be seeing a new Monsturradon fighting Leonydas, and it would eventually lead to some fears, since by then, Monsturra Rex is still considered a threat, though he is assumed to be dead. As a way to silence the fears, the government or my anti-kaiju agency will come out and say Monsturra was raised by humans to become mankind's guardian, but I have people being paranoid about that. To me, I think that would be a cool story element which hasn't been done in a kaiju story before, and since this does start after a few behemoths attacks in the past (starting in the late 1980's/early 1990's), and the bulk of the story is set in the late 2020's/2040's, it would make a bit more sense.

B) My human cast is, how could I put it, a bit weak. I do have a idea of one of my characters, named Kenny no less, being part of a storm-chasing-type of crew who cover kaiju for a documentary-style web/TV show (think Netflix) called The Behemoth Chronicles (yes, I'm being meta). I think making him a Josh Gates (from Destination Truth) type of person who is a researcher who has a interest with the behemoths, especially since he was a child during Monsturra Rex's "final stand". I think with how I would resolve things with A) would be that he gets permission to cover Monsturra due to the public paranoia and interest, and the government allowing him to do such to improve their image.

As for other human characters, I have the idea of Monsturra's latest handler/trainer, a military/naval captain who has a hatred towards behemoths due to a tragic backstory (think Captain Ahab, but less insane), a politician/civilian advisor for the anti-kaiju agency, and finally, Kenny's friends/crew members who share his adventures.

C) I'm thinking about for the first story that Monsturra fights two kaiju, though not at the same time. The first will be Brasher, which will be a simple straightforward battle. For Monsturra's second enemy, and the true non-human villain of the story, I am debating on what creature I want. I definitely want a flying kaiju of some form, but I am between a giant bird, giant bat, or a giant dinosaur/wyvern looking thing with bat-style wings (think the dinosaur Yi Qi, but bigger and more savage looking). Since the Terregins are pterosaur-like, I'm really iffy on using another pterosaur-like monster, even if they have difference roles and appearances. Back to the problem on hand, I'm kind of leaning towards this monster being man-made creature, either indirectly (mutation) or directly (genetic manipulation), as a response to Monsturra's very existence. However, this kaiju, though created by man as a protector, comes to hate mankind due to it's existence and cold enviroment that it grew up in, and turns against them, and comes to fight Monsturra, a kaiju who was born naturally, but raised with respect from humans. I think that would give the creature a better direction than "here's another behemoth that Monsturra fights. Plus, I have the idea of this new monster, who I might name Deinopteryx or so, eating humans  as well, both to kill them as a form of revenge, and for nourishment as it grows up.

As for abilities, beyond flight, I'm not sure. I don't really want to give him a beam attack, but I am ok with him having a oral attack, like acid or poisonous fog that can also weaken Monsturra's plasma flame breath.

Anyway, that's what I got so far. What you all think? Any of this stuff sounds good or should I start a new thing? I would really like some feedback, please.

Later,
Jake

1) Eh, father/son enmities are overrated if you ask me.

2) I personally disagree, but do what you will.

3), 4) No opinion.

B) Yes. Though given the "extreme" nature of his work, I doubt this character really cares about getting written permission. Part of the fun could be law enforcement trying to track him down because what he's doing is both illegal and incredibly dangerous.
